Emmanuel Ray represents Britain in LA's NOH8 campaign

Emmanuel Ray, voted Fashion Icon of the Year (2011) at Fashions Finest Awards UK 2011, represented Britain in LA's NOH8 campaign when it was shot in London's Soho Hotel.

Launched by Hollywood photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley, the NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.

Emmanuel Ray who was named Britain's First It Boy by the BBC, said he feels very honoured to be representing both the British and Asian GLBT communities and showing his support to this ground breaking campaign. "NOH8 not only raises the important issue that is Prop 8 but also mirrors our continuing struggle for equality. I stand for every gay Asian who has had to fight prejudice and homophobia and all GLBT people around the world as we are one big family, standing united in our fight against homophobia in all its forms," he said.

"Our basic human rights are being violated in several countries around the world and we continue to be treated as second class citizens. Together we can all create a change and I thank all our heterosexual friends and families for joining us in this cause," he added.

Nearly two and a half years since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 13,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more.

The NOH8 Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world, and has appeared in various local and national news programs and publications. The images are widely used on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the message of equality. Eventually the images will be compiled for a large-scale media campaign.
